Itinerary description

This is the track for a hike beginning at height-of-land on US4 on the Sherburne Pass (the old Long Trail) trail (begins across from the Inn at Long Trail, Sherburne, VT) and continues south. When we came out of the woods onto a ski slope, we went downhill about 100' to cross the slope and head up a ski slope to the top of the lift. To the left of the summit is the ski patrol building - notice the steps, and take them up to their porch and you'll see there's easy access to the high point a short distance away. From Pico's summit, head down the access road (slightly to the left of the summit). You now have a choice - the track shows where you re-enter the woods for a steep descent to intersect the road again, or - you can follow the road down for about 1/3 mile, and where it flattens up after turning a corner to the left, and then take the Sherburne Pass trail where it re-enters the trees again. Watch closely for blue blazes. The re-entry point may not be obvious. A short distance later you will come to the intersection of the Long Trail. Turn left on the Long Trail, and then another left when you hit the just with the Bucklin for Killington's summit. Returning, we took the Bucklin down to Wheelerville Road, for a ride back to vehicles.

Did you also get Mendon on this hike? I am looking to start at Sherburne Pass to get Pico and Killington and return my steps back to car. Bucklin Trailhead on a different day to get Mendon. I Hear this may be easier??

Tammy - on this hike we did Pico and Killington. Snowdon is a subpeak - I don't even know if it's on a map, but if you've ever skied Killington, you might remember there's a chairlift to the top of Snowdon. (I grew up nearby, and worked/skied at Killington for several years). If you want to get Mendon, start from the Bucklin TH. It's possible to get both Mendon and Killington from Bucklin, but you'd have to pass on Pico unless you spotted a car at the high of land on US4.

Kevin, what device/app did you record this hike with?

I've been having a horrible time with my Garmin Forerunner 305 and hiking. I recently hiked up Sherburne Pass Trail across the AT/LT over to Killington which should have been ~5.4-5.9miles then down Killington so maybe 7 miles, Garmin recorded 3.95!!! MMR uploaded the activity but shows no map at all and Strava refuses to even upload the activity! I tried switching to Every Second recording vs Smart Recording and then tried offing Auto Pause which seems to help but still not accurate data. Looking to find a device/app that actually works. Thanks for hearing me out. Happy Trails
