Itinerary description
I have done the trip in one day, including driving 140km to get to and from home.
But of you prefer to stay over night and explore more of the area, you can stay at the campsite or a hotel just by the Lac des Bouillouses.
It’s a very pleasant and easy hike until you reach the final ascent to the pic. That is where things get a bit more complicated. You have to expect much steeper path and some climbing at the very end before you reach the top.
We mostly followed an official route, which is very clearly marked and easy to find.
We have not made it to the end, our hike finished around 170m before. It was due to a huge storm approaching from the other side of the mountain and we didn’t want to risk having to descent in rain when the path would get very slippery and dangerous.
I’m definitely coming back to finish the whole hike and reach the top of Pic Carlit.
