Itinerary description
Very challenging but beautiful trail to Refugiul Diana (a mountain shelter). You have to climb over fallen trees and big boulders, but all in beautiful wild forest scenery.
A word of warning: this is bear country! It would not be a bad idea to carry pepperspray, because bears can actually be dangerous and people get killed by them every year in Romania.
The path markings are clear: yellow triangle up, and blue/white flag down. The way down to Zarnești is easier, but be careful not to slip in wet weather.
The last part of the trip, right after the monastery I got some torrential rain, which turned the path into a river of mud. So it would be better to start early because torrential rains in the afternoon are common around these parts. Upon reaching the asphalt I hitched my way to Zărnești.
For me, this has been the hardest walk I ever did. The walking part of this track is only 6km, but I was exhasted at the end. You really need to have good stamina for this trail.
