Itinerary description
Only a plan for an almost 40 km walk, from Bang Niao Dam towards Big Buddha. But done with data from my trails in that area.
With the "waterholes" at Kathu waterfall and another one or two at Bang Wat reservoir there is the chance to walk with small weight in the backpack.
Usually I wanted to walk it just before x-mas, but covid didn`t let me do it.
Now I am not longer around on Phuket, so I will not have the chance to do it.
Perhaps someone else?
In the picture are two detours, which would let out the "waterholes". That was my first idea.
Since there are other options to organize to get food and water , it would cut down the trail to about a bit over 30k (says google ;-)
Have fun!

From what I see, I know that some parts have changed in the meantime and that you certainly have to find a detour. But in any case an interesting route.
They change all the time, even the rubber plantations. It is still a rain forest, but:
Most of the walk would be on used trails, paths, used not only by hikers, trail runners and annoying moto cross riders, but also used by workers and others.
It is a bit tricky, to get from the first 500 to the first 400 summit. Down to the path , that goes direct from Bang Niew to Kamala is steep, some of it at least, but you should see the direction to follow. From the path through the trees to the top of the rubber plantation (east of Kamala) that seems to be a un-common trail. But I found my way there, so ... ;-)
After that, to the sec. 400 and down to Kathu waterfall, up to the highest 500 and down to the road between Patong and Karon, there is mostly used trail or path to follow. And just one almost invisible part: the last 50 meters down to the Elephant "camp" near the road. Keep the tree line a meter or two to your left, watch the slope on the right and look for the old trail under the overgrown plants in front of you. it goes down, easily.
Up to the third. 500 (Radar Hill), only the last couple of hundred meters is trail, steep and perhaps a bit overgrown. Same is valid for the first couple of hundred meters down from there, to Bang Wad Dam.
Bang Wad up to the road, down to the path is easy, then there are 2 "depending on clearing status of the rubber plantation" parts: Down to the creek and up from there to the "new road to Patong".
And the last "difficult" part, imho, is the Karon 400 hill top. You have to go up a plantation, cross a 10ish meter area between it and the next plantation, turn right and walk through some "unused" part to the hilltop and further on to the path on the other side.
I was certain, in December, that it would be possible. Perhaps a pre-walk for some of the areas may clear that then?
I upload a pic with the areas in questions marked!
Happy walking
