Itinerary description
The temple mountain of Phnom Suntuk is a nice day trip from Kampong Thom. Take any vehicle to the junction, and then walk some 2 km to the foot of the mountain.A long flight of some 800 stairs lead up to the top. There you have a scenic view over the Cambodian savanna. And there are many small temples and Buddha statues scattered all over the hilltop.
After stepping down from the hill, walk on a dirt path eastwards through an area covered with small trees. After a few kilometers, you arrive at the next mountain which is not such high. After a quarry which is decorated with a marble (?) Buddha figure, some strange rock formations can be seen on the right. After a laterite field, there is a construction site for a temple. Now some ponds be found here or there along the road, which turns south and runs straight on for some 4.5 km before it joins the main road.
Food or drinks are only available at the foot of Phnom Suntuk, and there is a small village shop just before you reach the main road.
