Itinerary description
Pentadaktylos mountains density forest and, more specifically, along the “Styllarka (Cypriot for pillars/columns) trail which is located right outside the village of Akanthou. The trail is circular, rich in vegetation (dominated by pines, cypress and strawberry trees) and offers some spectacular views of the “window rock”, the extraordinary steep columns (over 30 meters high) formed by limestone rock erosion, as well as panoramic views of the village of Akanthou and the Mediterranean sea. The total hiking distance will be around 9 km with an elevation change of over 400 meters and the hike is rated moderate to difficult (rated 2+ on a scale of 1 - 3). At some points the trail is very narrow. The whole hiking time with breaks will be around 3.5 hours.
Good quality hiking shows are a must and hiking poles are highly recommended! The hike is NOT SUITABLE to members with acrophobia or fear of heights!
