PELORITANI, Saponara, Portella Croce Cumia, Vivaio Zirio, Pizzo Impegna Parco Avventura Piano Verde (Sept 5th 2020)

l Sentiero Ziriò, lungo circa 2,4 Km, è compreso nel Demanio Forestale di Saponara, ha inizio da Portella Croce Cumia, sulla strada per Dinnammare, appena superato il cancello del vivaio Ziriò, da cui prende il nome ed attraversa diversi ambienti forestali. Domina il Pino marittimo ed il Castagno. Il sottobosco è caratterizzato da piante di rovi, sambuco e felci.
A metà percorso dal sentiero è possibile ammirare la costa tirrenica, offrendo un panorama che va da Monte Scuderi , passando dall'Etna, Rocca Novara, il golfo di Milazzo fino ad arrivare alle Isole Eolie.
Nel luogo, da oltre 50 anni, l'Amministrazione Forestale gestisce l'unico vivaio forestale della provincia di Messina, importante serbatoio di piante utilizzate per rimboschire i terreni demaniali. Il sentiero offre ai visitatori numerosi punti di osservazione del paesaggio boschivo. Ogni punto di osservazione è segnalato da tabelle che, oltre a riportare il nome della specie, la classificazione e le caratteristiche, forniscono anche dettagliate descrizioni e curiosità.
Il percorso qui presentato e' un'estensione del tracciato base (che sarebbe di "soli" 2.4 Km) che raggiunge complessivamente i 9 Km, con un dislivello positivo di circa 250 mt (dislivello globale quindi di 500 mt) e che partendo da P.lla Croce Cumia (dove abbiamo parhceggiato) sale su Pizzo Impegna alla vecchia torretta di avvistamento (zona di decollo per le riprese aeree, torretta in disuso e non sicura purtroppo), raggiunge il parco avventura dei Peloritani, tocca le terre nere ed arriva infine al Vivaio prima di rientrare alla macchina. Complessivamente percorso fra il facile ed il moderato, su ampia carreggiata carrabile (in Jeep) e dislivello piu' che accettabile, adatto anche ai bambini. Oltre il panorama, che abbraccia i due mari, molto bella la flora arborea che richiama boschi d'alta montagna.

The Ziriò path, about 2.4 km long, is included in the Saponara Forestry Property, starts from Portella Croce Cumia, on the road to Dinnammare, just past the gate of the Ziriò nursery, from which it takes its name and crosses various forest environments. It dominates the Maritime Pine and the Chestnut. The undergrowth is characterized by brambles, elderberries and ferns.
Halfway along the path it is possible to admire the Tyrrhenian coast, offering a panorama that goes from Monte Scuderi, passing by Etna, Rocca Novara, the Gulf of Milazzo up to the Aeolian Islands.
In the place, for over 50 years, the Forestry Administration has managed the only forest nursery in the province of Messina, an important reservoir of plants used to reforest state-owned land. The trail offers visitors numerous observation points of the wooded landscape. Each observation point is marked by tables which, in addition to reporting the name of the species, classification and characteristics, also provide detailed descriptions and curiosities.
The route presented here is an extension of the basic route (which would be "only" 2.4 Km) which reaches a total of 9 Km, with a positive difference in height of about 250 meters (therefore, global difference in height is 500 meters). Starting from Portella Croce Cumia (where we parked) the route climbs up Pizzo Impegna to the old lookout tower (take-off area for aerial shots, the tower in disuse and unfortunately unsafe), reaches the Peloritani adventure park, touches the black lands and finally arrives at the nursery before returning to the car. Overall route between easy and moderate, on a wide carriageway (by Jeep) and more than acceptable height difference, also suitable for children. Beyond the landscape, which embraces the two seas (Tirrenic and Jonio), the arboreal flora that recalls high mountain forests is awesome.
