Itinerary description
Hike or bike ride along the Peļļi ravine and its slopes - forest paths, country roads, hills and downhill, along 7 lakes. As part of the trail passes through the territory of Estonia, you must have documents valid for crossing the border.
The trail partly coincides with the great Estonian "Perakula" hiking route, which leads through the whole of Estonia.
The trail starts at Mežavizlu houses. These are two bows. The longest ~9.5 km circle or Peļļu trail and the shortest ~4.5 km circle or Ilgāja-Naudas stone trail.
The long circle or the Peļļi trail path initially leads down the ravine formed by the melting waters of the ice to the scenically beautiful Lake Ilgāja in the valley. There is a well-maintained recreation place near Aleja house, which offers a nice view of Ilgāja and its small islands on the Latvian side of the lake. In the middle of the four lakes of Peļļu valley - Ilgājs, Sūneklis, Smilšājs and Peļļu - the Latvian-Estonian border runs. On the Estonian side, they are called Kikkajärv (Lake Rooster), Sarapuujärv (Lake Lazdu), Liivajärv (Sand Lake) and Mudajärv (Dune Lake) and are included in the Paganamo Landscape Protection Area. At Liivajärv or Lake Smilšāja on the Estonian side, you can stay in a well-maintained recreation area, swim and observe the surroundings from the steep slope of the Peļļu ravine. After crossing the state border at Peļļupīte, a path leads up a steep slope to a hill. Next, you have to go along the country road past Lake Eniķi and Jenšu houses to Lake Palpiera and Naudas stone.
The beginning and end of the shortest arc or Ilgāja-Naudas stone trail coincide with the Peļļu trail. The trail starts behind Mežavizlu houses, leads down to Lake Ilgāja. There is a well-maintained recreation place near Aleja house, which offers a nice view of Ilgāja and its small islands on the Latvian side of the lake. The trail continues along a shady, rather steep forest road up to the Vizla House. Vizla Hill offers a wide view of Estonia. Then the trail leads along the beautiful forest road to the Money Stone, and then along the lakes Palpiera and Kūriņkalns return to the Mežavizlu houses, at the beginning of the trail.
