Itinerary description
Start and finish at the square of Makrirachi. This short circular route allows us to visit the excellent viewpoint of Aetofolia through the wild gorge of Megalo Rema, and return to the village square joining the main cobblestone path (kalderimi) that comes from Chania via Prophitis Ilias and Agii Anargyri churches. Walking time 1 hour 40', with stops 1 hour 50'. Marking with red marks. We start walking from the square on the main asphalt towards Anilio village and just after the last house of Makrirachi we take an uphill narrow street on the right. We pass a water reservoir and walk on the wild northern slope of the canyon. Paying attention to our right, we find a pole with a sign and an arrow to the right to "Aetofolia". The uphill path is narrow and requires attention. In 10 minutes we are at Aetofolia enjoying the view. To return, we continue on the path that immediately becomes a narrow earth road. We come to a signpost (ΑΤΤΕΝΤΙON) where we meet the kalderimi-path that comes from Agii Anargyri church and ultimately from Hania. We follow it downhill to the right (it is steep only for a couple of meters at the beginning because of soil that has fallen when the road was constructed ).This leads back to Makrirachi square.
