Itinerary description
Mετά την ανεύρεση και τον καθαρισμό εν έτει 2018 ενός νέου μονοπατιού, που συνδέει την πηγή Μάνα της Πορταριάς με την Αγία Παρασκευή Μακρινίτσας και περνά το Μέγα ρέμα ψηλότερα από την άσφαλτο προσφέροντας σημεία με καταπληκτική θέα, μας δίνεται πλέον η δυνατότητα να κάνουμε μια κυκλική πορεία μεταξύ Μακρινίτσας και Πορταριάς αποφεύγοντας κατά το δυνατόν την άσφαλτο. Το μονοπάτι έχει έναν βαθμό δυσκολίας και θα πρέπει να αποφεύγεται μετά από δυνατές βροχές και όταν λιώνουν τα χιόνια, οπότε το ρέμα κατεβάζει αρκετό νερό και μπορεί να είναι σχεδόν αδιάβατο (ενώ συνήθως είναι στεγνό). Η έναρξη της πορείας μπορεί να γίνει είτε από τη Μακρινίτσα (στροφή λεωφορείων), είτε από την Πορταριά (βρύση Αδάμαινα), είτε ακόμα από τις Σταγιάτες (πλατεία). Καθαρός χρόνος πορείας 3.20', με τις στάσεις 4,5 ώρες περίπου. Σήμανση με διάφορες πινακίδες και κόκκινη μπογιά. After a new path was found and opened in 2018, connecting the spring Mana of Portaria to Makrinitsa and crossing the Mega Rema stream at a level higher than the asphalt road (and offering fabulous views), we now have the opportunity to create a circular walk, avoiding the asphalt as much as possible. Caution is required after heavy rain, or when the snow melts in spring, causing the stream to flow enough water to make crossing difficult (usually it is dry). The walk is best avoided in such circumstances. The walk may start either from Makrinitsa (end of bus line) as recorded here, or Portaria (Adamena fountain), or from Stagiates village square. Walking time 3.20', about 4,5 hours with stops. Signed with various signs and red paint.

The trail has a little bit of everything, light rock clilbing, waterfalls, kalderimi, amazing views, dense forest. The heat was harsh in August but the experience was amazing otherwise. With two of our three hikers group being beginners it took us 8 hours with many drink/snack/bath stops during the day.

Πολύ ωραία διαδρομή με εξαιρετική θεα. Σε εμάς παρόλο που είχε ήλιο δεν μπορούσες να θαυμάσεις την θέα λόγω υγρασίας. Το κομμάτι από το μονοπάτι του Κενταύρου κ πριν την Μακρινίτσα είναι πολύ πολύ καλό!

Πολύ όμορφη διαδρομή, με πάρα πολλές εναλλαγές! Προσοχή, όμως, στο τελευταίο κομμάτι, με δυτική κατεύθυνση, πάνω από τη Μακρυνίτσα! Αρχές Ιουνίου 2020 που βρεθήκαμε εκεί ήταν εντελώς ακαθάριστο, με αποτέλεσμα να είναι πολύ δύσκολο να το ακολουθήσεις. Εμείς σε ένα σημείο χαθήκαμε και αναγκαστήκαμε να ανέβουμε 20 μέτρα υψομετρικής εκτός μονοπατιού σε πολύ δύσβατη περιοχή για να ξαναβρούμε το μονοπάτι, με τη βοήθεια του GPS. Αν καθαριστεί, ας προσθέσει κάποιος σχόλιο για ενημέρωση.

Really lovely walk. Timing is accurate, climb is steep in places but the trail changes so there is a bit of everything. I'm hopeless with trails and always get lost but this was really clear. Thank you.

Καλή διαδρομή αλλά προσοχή στο κομμάτι από την Μακρυνίτσα έως την Πορταριά είναι εγκαταλελειμμένο και σχεδον αδιάβατο, θα έλεγα και επικίνδυνο σε κάποια σημεία. Χρειάζεται άμεσα καθάρισμα από τα αγκάθια.

This trail has very nice parts, views and fairytale streams with waterfalls. The part halfway between portaria and makrinitsa is very overgrown with thorny bushes. We wore shorts and our legs are fully scratched. I advise to wear long pants and take a stick to hold back some of the nasty bushes. It was a good adventure nevertheless!
On 4 May 2022 , a few volunteers did some cleaning at the problematic section between Portaria-Makrinitsa. Now improved, but long trousers are still recommended (and will be in the future too) . It would be good for everyone to carry garden gloves and scissors, in order to cut protruding branches.
4/5/2022 το προβληματικό κομμάτι καθαρίστηκε από λίγους εθελοντές. Ωστόσο παραμένει η σύσταση να φοράμε μακριά παντελόνια. Αν γίνεται, να έχομε μαζί μας γάντια και ψαλίδι κήπου, ώστε ο καθένας να κόβει τα πιο ενοχλητικά κλαδιά.
Ξεκινήσαμε τη διαδρομή από Πορταρια και ακριβώς πριν φτάσουμε στο εκκλησάκι του Αγίου Ιωάννη, μας έκαναν ντου τσομπανοσκυλα,οπότε γυρίσαμε πίσω. Δεν πειράζει. Ωραίο και το μονοπάτι των Κενταύρων.

Beautiful path with lots of May flowers and amazing views. Between Portaria and Makrinitsa (past the centaur path) was quite overgrown but not too bad (long trousers needed!) A bit difficult to find one of the crossings (After another three hundred meters, as the road takes a right turn, we leave it on a straight line - the signpost we put here has sadly been removed by an unknown person-, cross a small stream and continue on a narrow path traversing a rocky slope.) Here look out for the red markings instead and you'll also have to climb up a bit of terrain.

This hike is hardly doable as I' m writing this. I guess heavy rains must have made many sections collapse like in an earthquake. At various points the path simply vanishes into little ravines. You keep getting lost and refinding the horribly overgrown path puts you in serious physical danger (and I mean it!) We ended up with scratches and bruises, a broken watch and torn clothing. Unfortunately, I must say it has been one of my worst hiking experiences ever.

If Only you would have read my latest update since last November 2023, which was: ,Update 11/2023: following the terrible flooding of Sept. 2023 the route is impassable.''' I`m sure you would have chosen another walk. You had been warned and chosen to undeertake an impassable walk. What else would you expect?
