Itinerary description
Stayed two nights in Doberdol to be able to summit this beast, Kosovo's highest. The weather looked grim in the morning with lots of overcast, low clouds and wind. The views were still spectacular including the lakes. Sadly, we could not see Kosovo (or anything due to fog). Doesn't seem to be that uncommon to have weather like that though!
Anyway, as we camped just above the village, we started our hike on a goat trail not very visible. Eventually, you start going up and it becomes more apparent up to the pass. After the pass, it's clearly marked.
We wanted to make a loop based on a route suggested in a guidebook. The beginning of that trail goes down is super steep, not nice to your knees and is barely visible. We followed it for a couple kms but we did not want to go all the way down so we took a shortcut along the valley slopes. However, we thought we were taking the shortcut to meet the trail in the guidebook but it was not. So we had to do some scrambling through rocks and steep passes to find it again down the valley. I don't recommend this way back as it's steep and maybe dangerous. If you find the trail, follow it or just go back the same way. Still, it gave us a great and different view of the green valleys and tall peaks. Only wish weather was better ;)
