Itinerary description

We took a shortcut and skipped the Kosovo side of the Peaks of the Balkans trek due to time constraints. We had read it was mostly rolling hills that were beautiful but we wanted the high mountains. Our original plan was to go to Babino Polje and then continue on to Plav to buy food. In the end, we hiked an hour to the empty village of Bajrovica Katun and camped nearby.

The way up to the pass from Doberdol is very steep but nothing too bad. We were lucky this day as it was the first day with clear weather and sun. You can see how beautiful the valley Doberdol sits on is. This is probably my favorite place in the trek so far. After the pass, we mainly walked along the ridge and got beautiful views of Montenegro and Kosovo. We even got to see Mount Gjeravica which we didn't get to see on our day hike there!

On the way there, we wanted to see if we could climb a nearby peak (highest point in our trail) but found no way up so we continued onwards. The trail is very good again and easy to find. Nothing much to say other than the great views you get. The way down to Babino Polje is steep so watch your knees.
