Itinerary description
Only 4 miles round trip, but it can be difficult negociating the spruce and the 8-15' cliffs that ring the mountain at about 2500'. The climb up got us into the worst spruce and they are labled as waypoints. We also had to deal with the slight burning in our throats, eyes and lungs from the forest fires burning in Quebec. By the time we reached about 3500' we were above much of the smoke. On the way down we managed to find mostly open woods, and herd paths. Read Marty's touching tribute to Ray Loring in the cannister. Highly recommend eye protection and removing the snow baskets from your hiking poles.

We went up and didn't follow this but followed the "herd Path", stupid move!! Came down dead on the tracks and it was perfect! No scrub and thick spruce if you stay on this track!! Especially on top of the ridge!! right in the beginning you will see that this track goes to the left, follow it! You will avoid an eye slapping experience if you do!! Read the trip reports about staying left.....they mean to stay way left at the beginning!! And get up on that ridge! There is a herd path like 93 right up the middle of this ridge. It looks like a bomb went off up there but this path will send you up a really nice path!
