Itinerary description

Volcán Tenorio National Park, in Bijagua, northern Costa Rica, is a volcanic massif with 5 craters, currently inactive, with rain forests and cloudy forests, and with virgin areas where some endangered species live such as tepezcuintle, danta or cougar.
The Park has a trail, over 4 km long, following Celeste River. The main attractions, apart from observing the flora and fauna and walking through primary and secondary forests, are:
- Rio Celeste Waterfall: It is a waterfall of about 30 m that falls into a turquoise blue pool. It is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Costa Rica.
- Blue Lagoon: small turquoise blue lagoon.
- Borbollones or Hervideros: place where volcanic gases escape from the bottom of the river, causing the water to reach temperatures of 31 °C to 94 °C, and give the appearance of boiling water. The smell of sulfur that emits the water is noticeable.
- Viewpoint of the Volcán Tenorio
- Los Teñideros: It is a spectacular place where two rivers of clear water, Buenavista and Quebrada Agria rivers, come together and the river takes on its characteristic turquoise color. The coloration is formed by the mixing of two not colored efluents. Rio Buenavista and Quebrada Agria. The ph Change (acidity) in the mixing point, Teñidero, increases the particle size of some minerals, aluminosilicates, from 180 nanometers to 570 nanometers. A fraction of these minerals reaches the bottom of the river and it can be seen as a white sediment whereas the majority of the mineral remains suspended along the river. The scatterinf of sunlight caused by the minerals that remain suspended explain the turquoise-blue color of the river
