Itinerary description
A very long hike through a variety of spectacular landscapes. Beginning of the path is near the Santiage del Teide Norte bus stop. It was a little tricky to find due to construction work at the time of visiting, and I had to do a detour. The first few kilometers alternate great viewpoints and forests, going down gently to Mirador de Baracan, the up again. Afterwards the path takes you to a few hamlets, and the adorable village of Los Bailaderos (time for a drink?). Going down further among the goats, you reach another spectacular mirador above Punta Teno and its lighthouse. Steep way down to the main road, travelled by regular bus 369 (surprisingly frequent). I chose to continue walking on the road (very wide and very little trafic), that goes up on the cliffs. Really impressive! At some point, the road reaches a long tunnel, pitch dark - a quasi mystical experience walking toward the spot of light. To keep it safe, have the torch of your telephone at hand when vehicles pass. Final leg goes down safely to Buenavista del Norte, a quiet charming town in the middle of the banana plantations. Frequent buses take you to Icod, with connections to Puerto de la Cruz, Santa Cruz or Los Cristianos.
