01) Mpafi refuge
Mpafi refuge (1161 m - 3809 ft) - Beginning / End of the route.
02) Junction to forest recreation area
As you exit to the parking, head east (right) to the recreation area. Look for the apple tree, which is full of fruits in October and November. The apples, which fall from the tree, are a delicious food for deers. Follow the red marks on the trees.
03) Seasonal water spring
During the rainy season, water flows under the stone on your left (north).
04) Junction with asphalt road
Head to north (left) for about 30m when you meet the road and continue on the path to your right (east).
05) Wood mushroom
The wood mushroom is a fungus that is usually found in tree trunks in decomposition. This fungus is not eaten and it was used for lighting fire because it is very flammable.
06) Pistacia Lentiscus
At this point you can notice many evergreen shrubs. Its scientific name is Pistacia Lentiscus. They have small, spherical red fruits. The famous Chios' mastic trees are species of Pistacia Lentiscus. Mastic is a resin obtained from the mastic tree.
08) Junction with asphalt road
At this point, turn left (northeast) onto the asphalt road for about 20m. There head right (southeast), where you will find the path again.
09) Oak tree
At this point, you will see oak trees. Below the bushes, you will find wild strawberries. You can enjoy the view of Evia, which is the second-largest island of Greece to the east.
10) Water spring
On your right, you will see a water spring on the ground. The water comes to the surface of the soil because at this point the limestone, which permits the water passing through (acts as a sponge), comes into contact with the slate, which does not allow water to pass through.
11) Junction to Mesiano nero water spring
Follow the trail to your left (northwest). Look for the plant with light green color on the top of fir trees. This is the parasitic plant, Viscum. The viscous substance of its fruits has been used for capturing birds.
14) Saint Peter's chapel
To your right is the chapel of St. Peter. It is an ideal place to stop after 3 km (1.8 mi). Look in the yard for walnuts and plane trees, wild roses and for the hollow on the almond tree. The flowers of the wild rose have beneficial abilities for the human body. However, in the national park of Parnitha, it is NOT allowed to cut any flowers. !Caution! Do not sit under the roof of St. Peter's chapel because it is not stable. Continue on the main asphalt road.
15) Follow the trail on the junction
At the junction leave the main asphalt road and follow the trail on your right (North). (The dirt road on right will lead you to the same point).
16) Mola plain - End of the route.
You have reached Mola plain, the larger deer habitat on the mountain and an amazing picnic area to spend your time. Follow the same route that you came from to return to Mpafi refuge.
