The Pancake Rocks (Spanish for “crepes rocks”) is a major tourist attraction in the region, located at Dolomite Point, south of the town of Punakaiki, a small town in the West Coast region of the South Island of New Zealand on the Tasman Sea coast. It is located at the gates of the Paparoa National Park. The Pancake Rocks are in a highly eroded limestone region by the sea that penetrates at high tide by means of vertical marine geysers. The limestone itself is made up of alternating hard and soft layers (marine animals and plant sediments).
Pancake Rocks can be explored thanks to several paved roads, and partly carved out of the rock itself, which allow access to wheelchairs.
