Itinerary description

The first half of this walk is on paved roads past olive groves to the village of Anidri. There was little traffic on these roads in February. There's a cafe in the village, in an old schoolhouse, but it was closed when we passed it. From the village, the route descends steeply, first on paved lanes, then on a trail, into the gorge. We weren't sure whether we'd encounter flowing water in the gorge in February, but it was dry except for a bit of leakage from irrigation pipes near the village. The descent of the gorge is straightforward, but is quite rough in places. A trekking pole is strongly advised, along with a good sun hat.

I have followed this trail  View more

I walked this trail in reverse and loved it. The scenery was great. There's a water tap about 1/3rd of the way up (though the taste isn't amazing). The route is mostly easy going with the occasional part that needs a bit of climbing up rocks.

The rope ladder pictured is no longer that. Just a knotted rope and the rock face is very smooth from people sliding down it. It didn't feel safe to climb that rope, but we found an alternative route round to the right of the large rock and over the top of it.

Near the top, the orange markers have been repainted with grey, which is much harder to see. Occasionally we had to backtrack a few paces to find the right way up, but mostly very easy to follow and the GPS plots were very helpful.
