Itinerary description
This is pleasant ~6mi hike on South Mountain in the Michaux State Forest in Pa, just north of the Mason-Dixon Line. The hike starts out with a steep assent (~1000ft in 1.5mi) to Chimney Rock and its views of the South Mountain highlands to the north and east. The hike then descends into and through the scenic gorge of Tumbling Run, passing Climbing Rock, with limited views of the gorge and nearby ridge and the PATC Hermitage Cabin. Note, crossing of Tumbling run can be difficult and dangerous in high water. For more information, visit my hiking blog
