P5.04 - Percorso ad anello 'Grotte di Castelcivita'

Il percorso parte ai piedi del caratteristico borgo di Castelcivita e precisamente a pochi metri di distanza dall’ingresso delle Grotte. Il punto di partenza è raggiungibile in macchina e un piccolo slargo consente la sosta delle autovetture; è inoltre presente un bar in cui è possibile acquistare bevande o altro prima di incamminarsi.
Il percorso è particolarmente impegnativo in quanto i primi 14 Km sono tutti in salita; durante il tratto in questione è però possibile godere di una vista particolarmente interessante sul borgo di Castelcivita e in generale su tutta la vallata circostante.
Proseguendo la salita, dopo circa 10 Km, si arriva in Località “Piano S. Maria”; seguendo la strada sterrata ci si addentra in un fitto bosco di faggio il quale rende l’escursione molto più piacevole. Qui il percorso è ben segnalato e prima di arrivare sulla vetta del Monte della Nuda è necessario prestare attenzione in punto in cui è presente una ferrata utile ad arrampicarsi in sicurezza su un costone roccioso.
Superato tale “ostacolo” si prosegue l’escursione lungo la vetta dalla quale è possibile affacciarsi dall’altro versante degli Alburni (Sicignano, Postiglione ecc.).
Dopo diversi chilometri in salita comincia una piacevole discesa con la quale si va a chiudere un primo anello in prossimità della statua della Vergine per poi proseguire sullo stesso percorso dell’andata. Dopo circa due chilometri si arriva sulla stradina sterrata. Qui invece di proseguire sullo stesso percorso fatto in precedenza, si svolta a destra seguendo la strada per poi andare a chiudere, dopo diversi chilometri, un secondo anello.
Terminato anche questo tratto il percorso prosegue sempre in discesa fino ad arrivare al punto di partenza.
Il percorso per la maggior parte dei chilometri è ben segnalato e non particolarmente difficile da seguire, anche se sono presenti alcuni tratti in cui la vegetazione infestante è molto fitta il che rende poco visibile il percorso; qui è bene proseguire con molta cautela.

The route starts at the foot of the characteristic village of Castelcivita and precisely a few meters away from the entrance to the Caves. The starting point can be reached by car and a small clearing allows cars to park; there is also a bar where you can buy drinks or other things before setting off.
The route is particularly challenging as the first 14 km are all uphill; during the stretch in question, however, it is possible to enjoy a particularly interesting view of the village of Castelcivita and in general of the entire surrounding valley.
Continuing the climb, after about 10 km, you arrive at “Piano S. Maria”; following the dirt road you enter a dense beech forest which makes the excursion much more pleasant. Here the route is well signposted and before reaching the summit of Monte della Nuda it is necessary to pay attention to a point where there is a via ferrata useful for climbing safely on a rocky ridge.
Once this "obstacle" has been overcome, we continue the excursion along the summit from which it is possible to look out onto the other side of the Alburni (Sicignano, Postiglione etc.).
After several kilometers uphill, a pleasant descent begins which closes a first ring near the statue of the Virgin and then continues on the same route as the outward journey. After about two kilometers you arrive on the dirt road. Here, instead of continuing on the same route taken previously, you turn right following the road and then close, after several kilometres, a second ring.
Once this section has also been completed, the route continues downhill until reaching the starting point.
For most of the kilometres, the route is well signposted and not particularly difficult to follow, although there are some stretches where the weeds are very thick, making the route difficult to see; Here it is best to proceed with great caution.
