Itinerary description

The route starts about 4 km away from the characteristic village of Sant'Angelo a Fasanella and a small clearing allows cars to park. The first section of the route initially develops in a slight climb and then continues with an alternation of flat sections and light descents. In this first stretch the surface is unpaved until you reach a crossroads where you need to walk along a stretch of path with a natural surface. Continuing you enter the beech forest: here the path is characterized by the presence of steps and a wooden fence; continuing along the climb (quite challenging) for about 500 m you reach the top of the "Costa Palomba". Walking for less than 100 m you arrive at the characteristic sculpture of Antece.
The Antece is a rock sculpture, dating back to around 2500 years ago, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
According to some scholars it could have been a funerary monument to celebrate a brave warrior. According to others, the sculpture represents a pagan divinity who was worshiped by the Lucanians, an Italic population who lived in the Campania region before the Romans. In fact, Antece has been identified as the pagan divinity of the Alburni, which the Lucanians were called to venerate by climbing to the summit.
Route easy to follow, locate and well signposted.
