P24.03 - Sentiero “Sorgenti del Sammaro” (Sacco)

Il percorso parte ai piedi del caratteristico borgo di Sacco, il punto di partenza è raggiungibile in macchina e un piccolo slargo consente la sosta delle autovetture.
Il percorso nel primo tratto si sviluppa in discesa pertanto è molto piacevole e poco impegnativo; terminata quest’ultima si prosegue su un tratto di strada asfaltato e praticamente pianeggiante, il quale ci conduce ad un’area attrezzata con tavolini e panche.
Arrivati qui, lasciando il percorso di qualche decina di metri, è possibile affacciarsi direttamente sul fiume Ripiti (vedi foto allegate); riprendendo il percorso si prosegue costeggiando il fiume. In questo tratto la camminata è particolarmente piacevole grazie alla copertura boschiva costante che consente all’escursionista di rimanere al fresco e al contempo di immergersi in uno scenario naturalistico di notevole pregiatezza.
Terminato questo tratto, si attraversa un ponte in ferro e seguendo la segnaletica si prosegue in direzione “Sorgenti del Sammaro”; esse si trovano nella parte terminale delle gole del Sammaro, una grande frattura nella roccia calcarea lunga circa 1600 metri e sovrastata da un ponte ad arcata unica che collega Sacco con il vicino borgo di Roscigno.
Dopo una doverosa sosta si ritorna indietro per proseguire verso Sacco. Giunti al ponte in ferro si svolta a sinistra prendendo una direzione diversa rispetto alla precedente. Qui il sentiero si sviluppa su un fondo sterrato e in leggera salita il quale ci conduce sulla strada asfaltata. Proseguendo per qualche chilometro su quest’ultima si arriva al punto di partenza, chiudendo così l’anello.
Percorso facile da seguire, individuare e ben segnalato.

The route starts at the foot of the characteristic village of Sacco, the starting point can be reached by car and a small clearing allows cars to park.
The route in the first section is downhill and is therefore very pleasant and not very demanding; once the latter has been completed, we continue on a stretch of asphalted and practically flat road, which leads us to an area equipped with tables and benches.
Once here, leaving the path of a few dozen metres, it is possible to directly overlook the Ripiti river (see attached photos); resuming the route we continue along the river. In this stretch the walk is particularly pleasant thanks to the constant woodland cover which allows the hiker to stay cool and at the same time immerse himself in a naturalistic scenario of considerable value.
At the end of this stretch, you cross an iron bridge and following the signs you continue in the direction of “Sorgenti del Sammaro”; they are located in the terminal part of the Sammaro gorges, a large fracture in the limestone rock approximately 1600 meters long and dominated by a single arch bridge that connects Sacco with the nearby village of Roscigno.
After a necessary stop we return back to continue towards Sacco. Once you reach the iron bridge, turn left taking a different direction than the previous one. Here the path develops on a dirt surface and slightly uphill which leads us to the asphalt road. Continuing for a few kilometers on the latter you arrive at the starting point, thus closing the ring.
