Itinerary description

The starting point of the route is located approximately 9 km from the town center of Piaggine and can be reached by car. The road is asphalted and passable by any car, except for the last 2 km which are on a dirt road.
Having parked the car along the road, the ascent to the highest peak in Campania begins.
Almost immediately you take the "Festola" road. From here you head for the summit and face the mountainside, protected by the shade of the beech forest. In spring it is not uncommon to come across small seasonal springs that flow at the foot of the beech trees.
After approximately 3.5 km you arrive near the Cross of Vallivona and turning left (with a short steeply sloping path through the woods) you arrive at the Nevera (a small sinkhole, which fills with snow, present even in the height of summer (used once as a source of ice).
At this point, the summit is close and in just under 2 km you reach the roof of Campania where you can enjoy a unique panorama and visit the Madonna delle Neve cave.
To close the circular route, take the "Gravocciole" route starting from the car park of the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Neve.
The first stretch of the descent is steeply sloping but the landscape among the centuries-old beech trees ensures that the effort is fully rewarded and barely perceived; the path continues towards the Festola area, skirting the side of the Cervati massif until it crosses the Calore springs.
The route is not technically difficult, but its length and some sections exposed to the sun make it challenging.
It is advisable to bring plenty of water and hats to protect yourself from the sun.
