P20.01 - Da Perito alla Cappella di Santa Maria della Croce di Stio

Il percorso attraversa oltre a Perito i territori dei comuni di Orria, Gioi e Stio e fa parte dei “Sentieri della Croce”. Ha punti panoramici sia sulla Valle dell’Alento che verso il Monte Stella.
Il percorso ha inizio in corrispondenza della piazza e dopo aver percorso circa 700 m di strada asfaltata in direzione est si trasforma in tratto sterrato. Si giunge così nei pressi della località “Cerretiello” dove sono presenti sughere; da questo punto si comincia a salire. Si rimane in territorio del comune di Perito per circa 2.800 m. Si entra nel territorio di Orria a quota 582 m e si sale fino a quota 665 m e repentinamente si scende alla quota di 472 m. In questa prima parte del percorso si apre una veduta su Velia attraversando prati-pascoli e piccole aree boscate. Seguendo si riprende a salire di quota gradatamente sino ad arrivare alla frazione di Orria, Piano Vetrale alla località S. Antonio detta anche “Malevento”. Si sale sino alla quota massima di 716 m s.l.m. per poi raggiungere Stio con termine del percorso presso la località “Fiera” dove si trova la cappella di Santa Maria della Croce.

The route starts from the square of the quaint village of Perito. The starting point can be reached by car where parking in the main square allows cars to park.
In addition to Perito, the trail crosses the territories of the municipalities of Orria, Gioi and Stio and is part of the "Paths of the Cross." It has panoramic points both over the Alento Valley and toward Mount Stella.
The trail begins at the square and after covering about 700 m of paved road in an easterly direction turns into a dirt section. This leads to the vicinity of the locality "Cerretiello" where there are cork oaks; from this point one begins to climb. You remain in the territory of the municipality of Perito for about 2,800 m. You enter the territory of Orria at an altitude of 582 m and climb to an altitude of 665 m and abruptly descend to an altitude of 472 m. In this first part of the trail there is a view of Velia crossing meadow-pastures and small wooded areas. Following it you resume climbing in altitude gradually until you reach the hamlet of Orria, Piano Vetrale to the locality S. Antonio also known as "Malevento." It climbs to the maximum altitude of 716 m above sea level and then reaches Stio with the end of the trail at the locality "Fiera" where the chapel of Santa Maria della Croce is located.
