Itinerary description
This is a hike I've wanted to do for a while but never got around to.
I have a book - “J.E. Henry's Logging Railroads” by Bill Gove, that shows an old abandon railroad that is on the east and south of Owl's head. I've heard from other reports of people who crossed it that it was still pretty intact. I wanted to see if I could find it and follow it for the length. Where did it start? Where did it end? It was a fun hike on a beautiful day. Once you find the rail bed, its pretty easy to follow.
On the return, I tried the "Black Pond Bushwhack". This is a popular whack that avoids a crossing of Lincoln Brook and shaves a little off the total distance back to the car. Not sure if its any faster - the whack is pretty easy not not quick.

Just out of curiosity, where did the rail bed begin? This is one of the (many) places I'd like to explore more of.
