Itinerary description
Over Fauscoum, Waterford, Ireland (Hewitt, Marilyn and 600m+ peak).
Additional peaks of Knocknalingady and Coumfea (Hewitt)
I’m keeping these summaries short as I’m on a two month tour of Ireland and there’s a lot of hills to hike and therefore lots of entries. All mapping used are view ranger digital OS 1:50 or 1:25. You will get the best results by uploading my wikiloc gpx giles into this mapping software.
I was looking forward to this hike as the Comeragh range looked inviting and the weather was crystal clear and crisp. The route starts just north of Mahon Bridge on a secondary road going up to Mahon falls. You don’t have to start where I did as you can park further up at either of the two Mahon Falls viewing points. I just happened to have slept in the van here. It's a long enjoyable route so I suggest for you to just follow the gpx trail. The route is marvellous with great views everywhere. It’s basically got a big up and a big down with a circular plateau walk in between. The trail is indistinct, boggy in places and mainly sheep trails but I didn’t have much problem. Be wary, if the cloud is down there are big drops and not many features up there. Ohhh I also didn’t see a soul all day.
18.3ks in 5hr 45m (terrain slows you down) with 795m of ascent. A cracking day!
