Video of the trip Big Game. South Africa
The trekking is the most famous and exclusive in South Africa. It is a trekking of 5 days, which can be reduced to 4 by pressing if the crossing of the Bloukrans River falls in good time.
The route covers 45 km of virgin coast of the Tsisikama park. The best of all is that only 12 hikers are allowed per stage which makes it unique for being able to travel the entire route practically alone. The counterpart is that to get a place you have to book one year in advance. We booked in January and it was not easy.
The route starts from the Storms River camp and ends at Nature's Valley. What we have done is to go from Port Elizabeth to Nature's Valley by car, one hour and 45, there we have left the car in the parking lot of the camp and a company has picked us up and taken us to the beginning of the trekking. € 50 has cost us transportation.
The trekking has some shelters at the end of each stage. They are two houses with 6 beds each. One must carry all the food of the trekking and water purification tablets. At night it refreshes so a coat and sleeping bag must be thrown out. In total in the backpack we carry about 10 kilos that will be reduced as we eat the food. We have thrown lyophilized food so with a camping gas, a stove and a bowl we are perfect. More light impossible.
It is a trekking to enjoy. The first three stages are very short so you can stop at the beaches, swim and go without haste. I consider it moderate since the last stage is long and the crossing of the Bloukrans river can be very dangerous.
The rest of the stages are easy. I leave the link to each of the stages.
1 - Storms River - Ngubu Hut
2 - Ngubu Hut - Scott Hut
3 - Scott Hut - Oakhurst Hut
4 - Oakhurst Hut - Nature's Valley
