Itinerary description
Orange tree Route or Rota da Laranja was established by São Pedro do Sul Municipality.
The orange trees are abundant in this area and the fruit is particularly tasty here. The abundance of water and the great exposure to south are among the reasons for this.
Not very well marked and unfortunately with many trees that fell. The highlights goes to the views over the Vouga valley and the rural life of the small villages that it crosses.
Beautiful houses and ruins of granite and chiste.
Description:
It starts around the church of Valadares and goes all the way down to Paradela, crossing fields and a bit difficult way through previous agro small fields.
It climbs through an easy forest road on the way to São Cristóvão de Lafões, where an ancient preserved Monastery lies. This path is has a water half pipe used for watering fields in Paradela coming all the way from up The Valley of river Varoso.
One arrives in Pedreira with a nice church on the hill to see. From Pedreira an easy path to Boavista and from there a forest road all the way to the top of a small mountain with a nice view over The Valley and the reservoir. This is the most difficult part of the trail.
From there and there an easy path back to Valadares partly going through a forest road and also through a paved one.
