Itinerary description
Circuit from and to Ollantaytambo. Passing by Media Luna terraces, Pumamarca Inca ruins and then veering upwards steeply to Choquechaca and along the upper valley heading towards the glacier. Returns on the other side of the valley down to Pallata. Taken from Awamaki Walk Book. Rated 5/5 difficulty in their guide.
Section from Pumamarca along the canal is dangerous and difficult - attempt only in dry weather. Some sections involve vertical climbing.
One wrong turn immediately after Pumamarca ruins. Rather than following a trail, follow the canal vertically up the mountain as soon as you see it. There is no path - you need to balance on the bank of the canal or walk in the canal itself, for approximately 2 hours.
Return leg of route has gentle downhill with fast descent.
