Itinerary description
A nice loop walk - accessible by public transport (bus) and not too hard at all. We actually started off trying to do a longer loop walk (the popular 'Dandenong Ranges Walk') which includes Mt Dandenong/Sky High etc, but a lot of trails were still closed due to the 2021 storms, so in the end we did this shorter loop that was still very enjoyable.
The trial was a bit muddy and slippery in parts, and this was on a beautiful sunny day. This tended to be the narrower, more bushy parts of the walk, which are also some of the most enjoyable bits. Just take poles, especially if it's raining or has recently rained.
The trail does go through perfect lyrebird country, but we didn't see one.
n.b. since doing this walk I have again tried to get through the closed off trails - while there is a bit of bush bashing, you can get from the road/carpark after the waterfall and head straight up the 'no entry' trail to the right hand side of the creek/gully. It is a bit of bush bashing and some leeches, but not hard - the key bridge that was destroyed by the storm was rebuilt. After the bush, you will get to a road and can walk on to Sky High and loop back around (see my separate trail - 'Dandenong Ranges Walk - starting from Olinda'). Obviously, this is at your own risk.
Enjoy!
