Itinerary description
Mount Olympus is the highest mountain in Greece. It is part of the Olympus massif near the Thermaic Gulf of the Aegean Sea, located in the Olympus Range on the border between Thessaly and Macedonia. Mount Olympus has 52 peaks and deep gorges. The highest peak, Mytikas, meaning "nose", rises to 2,918 meters. It is one of the highest peaks in Europe in terms of topographic prominence. In Greek mythology Olympus is the home of the Greek gods, on Mytikas peak. The usual starting point for climbing Olympus is the town of Litochoro, Prionia. To reach the peak Mytikas are 2 ways, one is direct from Prionia to the peak and one other is to sleep one night in Spilos Agapitos refuge as we did. Water you can find only in the parking of Prionia and in the refuge only you can buy. The hiking is moderate because of the elevation gain that you get. The only difficult part is going from Skala to Mytikas. This part needs to be attention and to have some climbing skill. Along this pass are also some bolts where you can fix ropes .
