Itinerary description
The park's longest single loop, includes some of the finest, least disturbed woodland along the ridge on the western side, then dips into the valley for great views of the stream. In the valley it branches off to the left (north) from the Gwynns Falls Trail to follow the old pipeline route, with newly planted trees on the sides and great views of the stream, especially at the spot where a boardwalk has been built to cross a small wet area with a dramatic view of three grand old trees; then it heads up the incline to the top of the "sledding hill." Where it turns left onto the Old Wagon Road, one of the prettiest sections of a well-graded meandering old wooded roadway. Near the top of the hill it turns west to an eroded section of old road that follows the old stone wall, then turns up the hill to complete the loop.
The FT loop's two principal access points are from Eagle Drive; one connector is behind the large Outward Bound structure in back of the Trail House; the other from the trailheads at the bend of Eagle Drive just to the left of the Orianda mansion.
