The Massai people translate it as "mountain of God" (Lengai=God; Doinyo=mountain).

Night climb As you approach the top you begin to smell the "rotten egg stench" of sulfur and find some very hot vents where the super hot gas is coming out.
Due to the weather conditions at the summit we could not see the lava from the volcano in the crater (we only heard it), nor the sunrise on the other side, nor the views like Kilimanjaro or Lake Natron as points of interest reference
