Itinerary description

2014/07/24 23:42:58 ol doinyo lengai

Benetan gogorra, baina gauza gogorragoak ere badagoz... Ol doinyo bera jaistea, adibidez.

Tough, tough, tough, but even tougher was the descent.

Go pole, pole(*) and enjoy the view of the Great Rift from the top of an active volcano. (Take a look at the pictures in https://picasaweb.google.com/109029348310037963123/OlDoinyoLengai2014?authuser=0&feat=directlink)

Warnings: You should climb it at night, because of the temperature and in order to see the dawn from the top. So it can be dark and dangerous. Always go with a local masai guide (you should get one at the tourist office in Engarasero) and you will need a torch (preferrably a headset). Even at that latitude, it can be awfully cold up there at night, so take a good jacket, and then sun protector, a cap and sunglasses for the descent. Gloves will also be useful, as you will need to do a lot of hand-walking. And, of course, a maasai stick (ask your guide for one).

(*) Your most important swahili expresion: take it easy
