Itinerary description
Challenging
5.2km return
551m max altitude
Named for local priests who used to climb to the summit to keep an eye out for re-supply ships, Palasip Qaqqaa (Palasi = priest, Qaqqaa = mountain) is one of the classic day hikes from Sisimiut.
From its summit you have a 360-degree panoramic view of Sisimiut, Nasaasaaq, the Itilleq mountains, and surrounding areas. It is easy to see why the priests chose this vantage point!
The trail to the summit is well-marked but steep. There are many sections of loose gravel and mud, so it can be very slippery. Although there are currently many false trails, please follow the marked route and give the environment a chance to recover.
