Itinerary description
Wedged between the Nasaasaaq mountain range and the Amerloq Fjord, this coastal hike links Sisimiut to one of Greenland’s small, abandoned settlements.
Officially closed in 1970 under the Danish government's G60 initiative to consolidate the population of Greenland, Assaqutaq is a step back in time that features both decaying and restored buildings.
The trail between Sisimiut and Assaqutaq is very narrow, well-marked, and not steep for the most part. However, it is technical in places and requires some boulder scrambling and climbing. It will take longer than you expect to hike it.
