Itinerary description
A challenging walk to say the least, easy in places but very difficult in others. Start at O’Brien’s Crossing and head up the steps to the Byers Back Track and follow to the junction of the Gribble track, turn right here and a steep descend to The Tunnel ( entrance blocked with debris ), ( a man made tunnel to divert the river so the dry river bed could be mined. ) nice spot for a stop, cross the river next to The Tunnel and up and over, the exit on the other side is clear and worth seeing. Cross the river where possible, visit the old ruin cabin then bush bash along the river, be careful of any old shafts as this area is littered with old diggings, you will pick up a trail, continue on where you will come across a very steep scramble down a rock face ( be very careful ). When reaching Amber Lane ford, head up the hill approx. 50 metres and veer to the left to follow a rough track along the side of the river, still more bush bashing and mountain goat tracks to transverse. Overall very challenging in places
