Itinerary description
This was a transit to trails one way hike ending up at the Orinda BART station. Starting in Sausal Creek, the hike climbs through redwood and chaparral, crosses above hwy 24, and descends through ranch land.
It combines trails in Dimond Canyon Park (Oakland), Joaquin Miller Park, Redwood Regional Park, Huckleberry Botanic Preserve, Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve, and Siesta Valley Recreation Area.
The trails northeast of Huckleberry Preserve were far too soupy in winter (in many places trail segments have become muddy streams). The trail in Dimond Canyon frequently follows the stream bed between the overhead bridge and the culvert. After rains, the creek is high and necessitates frequent rock hopping and bushwhacking along a steep slope. Save this one for cooler days in April-October. Follow the route from West-East in summer as there is no water east of Sibley Volcanic Preserve.
