Trail photos
From the city of Queenstown you take the cable car. The first section of the route ascends through a coniferous forest, but soon opens up to an alpine landscape. The views are superb.
The climb to the hill is steep, but on a well-prepared path. After the pass the climb steepens and will become more rugged before reaching the summit of Ben Lomond. Some of us have decided not to do the complete ascent to protect our knees from the descent, but it is worth going up a little until we reach a point where we can see the two slopes: valleys flanked by mountains on one side and Lake Wakatipu with the city of Queenstown on the other.
We ate at the outdoor tables of the cable car before going down, enjoying the landscape.
A perfect sunny day.
