Itinerary description
English (castellano debajo):
We parked in Nunninger Dorf, right in the middle of the village where there was free parking.
Along a magnificent path, climb the first 300 meters of elevation gain to the Vogelberg viewpoint. In good weather, the Alps and the Napf region seem within easy reach. After a little over an hour and a half we arrived at Passwang. The historic pass road (1,204 m above sea level) from Balsthal to Schwarzbubenland and Reigoldswil was not suitable for carts in the 18th century due to its steep inclines.
The Vogelberg is a mountain of the Jura, located north of Mümliswil in the Swiss canton of Solothurn. It lies east of the Passwang Pass and it is part of the nature-park called Thal. The border with the canton of Basel-Landschaft runs north of the mountain. The Vogelberg is the easternmost summit above 1,200 metres in the Jura Mountains.
Right before Grauboden you will find a particular spot, which is apparently the place for Paragliding.
The highlight of this tour starts after the Bergasthof Stierenberg and requires some sure-footedness. There springs the Sigbach, which has looked for a route to the left of the path to Nunningen through the Jura limestone, which falls over a Jura flue above St. Friedli about 25 meters. This "Friedli Fall" of about 25 meters, impresses not because of its amount of water, but because of the remote and impressive rock basin in which it is located. In long periods of cold, impressive ice structures are formed here from above and from below.
Behind Stierenberg our path leads along this stream through its small valley to almost demolition, where the flight phase begins for the stream. There we turn left and climb on a narrow ridge up the Flue (again eastwards) towards Fäldmenegg, until we come to a signpost that points us to St. Friedli, first through a quite steep descent through the Flue, then below the Flue again westwards to the waterfall. Behind the fall, it then goes on a problem-free way back up to finally return to Neuhüsli on roads and paths.
To the «St. Friedli»: Shortly before the waterfall we come across the figure of St. Fridolin in a rock niche. This Irish pilgrim monk is depicted together with a skeleton because he raised the local farmer Urso from death to confirm to him a donation that Urso had made to Fridolin during his lifetime....
*Caution and sure-footedness are required during the first few minutes after the turnoff under the Flue Fäldmenegg.
*We didn't find many places to refill water, but there are a couple of restaurants in the way.
