Itinerary description

This hike is one of most scenic on the White Mountains. The idea is to hike on the relatively narrow Northeast ridgeline, having on the same time view to the north coastline, the Cretan Sea, Rethymno, Chania and also view to the mountain desert, the area of Mavri Lakki and the imposing peaks of Askyfiotikos Soros and Grias Soros.

The starting point is Niato Plateau. You follow the E4 up to a point. Note that this part of the E4 is tricky, not well marked and in a challenging terrain.
Then as you begin to enter the dessert, you abandon the E4 and climb to the ridgeline. You hike passing by the peaks of Koutalas and then Akrotirianos (2070m) to reach Mikros Trocharis (2105m). Just west of Akrotirianos is a great viewpoint where one can enjoy a view to the Mavri Lakki and the north coast at the same time.
One can return the same way or hike down from Mikros Trocharis to join the E4 and follow the trail backwards to Niato.
