Itinerary description
Some nice views of the North Yuba river, trees, creeks and rocks with more exercise than you might expect as it wanders up and down the hillside. But wikiloc's 3015' elevation gain is a wild exaggeration and I suspect that the 1650' AlpineQuest reported is exaggerated too. The trail is well shaded by oaks and pines.
Early in the trail we encountered several patches of blackberries taking over the trail. The patches were not that long and I clipped our way through (you’re welcome). Bring clippers if they’ve had a chance to grow back. We saw a lot of evidence that bears were enjoying the berries. After the berry patches the trail was easy and unobstructed. There are a few small creek crossings on rocks which were not a problem in late summer. We found only one side trail to the river which you can see on the track. Saint Catherine Creek and its bridge are pretty and a convenient place to turn around.
There is a sign at the trailhead and parking for a few cars, which is probably adequate. Based on the berries I don’t think this section of the North Yuba Trail is nearly as popular as the Rocky Rest upstream section. No fees or facilities. Goodyears Bar “town” is described here https://sierranevadageotourism.org/entries/goodyears-bar/68f46b4e-ab72-41c2-a463-6ba501a20f6e and is accessed by a photogenic bridge over the river on the way to the trail.
