Itinerary description

This trail starts at the end of road 13N77 and has no trail marker--just start heading downhill. (The road extends downslope farther than is shown on the quad map). It is hard to miss this hiking trail since the USFS allows motorcycles access to it. The impact of motorcycles is quite evident--gouged ruts from wheel spins, numerous side trails around obstructions on the trail, and eroded gullies. Even with all that, the trail leads down to some really beautiful old growth trees by the Rubicon River. When the trail gets less steep the motorcycle damage is less evident. Eventually, the trail links with the Old Rubicon Hiking Trail which leads south to the Ellicott Bridge and North to Gerle Mineral Springs. Motorcycles are only permitted on the North Little Deer Creek Trail down to the river at Hales Crossing. From there they are allowed to cross the Rubicon to the Hunter's Trail. They are not permitted on the rest of the Old Rubicon Hiking Trail. I wish the motorcyclists would try a little harder not to cause damage to multiple use trails.
