Newport Tour

Brian Hoban, a local Historian and Guide, offered to take all the participants in the Burrishoole Walking Festival on a Walking Historical Tour of the town of Newport, Co Mayo. We visited the Church with the beautiful Harry Clarke stained glass windows, the Viaduct originally built for the railway line Achill Island, the anchor monument presented by the Argentinian Navy, the beautiful Newport House, and many other historical sites. El historiador y guía Brian Hoban, ha organizado para los participantes en el Festival de Senderismo de Burrishoole (Burrishoole Walking Festival) un tour del pueblo de Newport, en el Condado de Mayo, Irlanda. Hemos visitado la Iglesia con las ventanas hechos por el famoso vidriero Harry Clarke, el viaducto anteriormente construido para el tren de vía estrecha (abandonado hace unos 80 años) a la Isla de Achill. También, vimos el monumento (un ancla de barco antiguo) presentado por las Fuerzas Navales Argentinas, Newport House anteriormente residente de los terratenientes de la zona, y más lugares históricos. The Burrishoole Walking Festival held on the first weekend in June, is now in its 24th year. It is necessary to register for the event with the organisers (www.burrishoolewalkingfestival.com), and is centered around the Derrada Community Hall. Each of the three days, there are two walks of different levels, and is therefore suitable for all levels of walkers. Lots of entertainment is organised around the event. Next year, the 25th, will be even bigger than usually.

El Festival de Senderismo de Burrishoole in Mayo, Irlanda, que se celebra anualmente el primer fin de semana de junio, ha cumplido 24 años. Hay que inscribirse con los organizadores (www.burrishoolewalkingfestival.com). Las salidas diarias se organizan desde el Centro de la Comunidad de Derrada. Cada uno de los tres días hay dos senderos de diferentes niveles. Organizan varios tipos de entretenimientos por las noches, música, baile, etc. En 2012 cuando celebran 25 años, será un Festival especial.
