Itinerary description
First day trail of Nevado del Tolima ascent South West Route from El Rancho, Juntas to La Cueva, Los Nevados. Mostly a steep jungle climb on the first day. My phone ran out of battery on the second day so I didn’t record the trail. I’ve got the photos though! Beautiful hike.
Note: This route is quite dangerous, and not just on the glacier. A guide died back in 2018 when he slipped on some rocks in the jungle section. I believe there have been several other deaths / accidents over the years. If it’s dry season bring water - the only water source is probably undrinkable due to sulfur contamination from the Volcano - it smells like rotten eggs!
