Itinerary description
We wanted to see Chania outside the tourist areas. Not a beautiful walk at all but interesting to see ordinary housing areas, totally without English signs and souvenir shops. Compared to the eastern parts, areas to the south are less fancy. Mostly apartment houses close to Nea Chora but increasingly detached houses the further south you come. Also fragments of olive groves and fruit orchards. Usually quite dirty, roads which lots of cracks and bumps, deserted houses several built to half only.
The real negative thing, as always, are the aggressive dogs. Everywhere in these suburban areas. Behind fences or in leeches but sooner or later I expect one to run loose and then there can be severe injuries.
