Nat'Our Route 4 - Bivels Falkenstein Stolzenbourg (NaturWanderPark delux)

A magnificent landscape composition awaits you on this fascinating hiking tour in the NaturWanderPark delux! It is probably one of the most beautiful postcard motifs in the NaturWanderPark delux that spreads out before you here: the Ourtal loop a little north of Vianden. In the valley lies the town of Bivels with the striking blue bridge, above which is the wooded hilltop with a light green tonsure, surrounded by the deep blue-green of the wide dammed Our, framed by steep oak forests. And in the middle of it all, the Falkenstein ruins, enthroned on a mighty slate spur. She is the first to emerge from the fog when the morning sun floods the Ourtal. Even if you're excited to set off, head to the viewing area at the Waldhof-Falkenstein grill hut to get you in the mood for the tour - it's amazing! Alternatively, you can reach and complete the Nat’Our Route from here via a short access route; it officially starts in Bivels.

Castles, tunnels and lakes
Much of what you see is man-made. Until the 1950s, the Our was a small stream that looped around Bivels, which looked very different back then. The St. Nicolas mountain opposite still had a real summit and there was no reservoir yet. The landscape bears witness to one of the most impressive construction projects in Luxembourg in the middle of the last century. One of the largest pumped storage power plants in Europe is located here, almost invisibly. Deep in the rock, the floodwaters rush in giant tubes between the reservoir and the upper basin on Mont St. Nicolas. The copper mine in Stolzembourg tells much older mining stories. Even older: the history of Falkenstein Castle, of which the house and castle ruins are still preserved today.
Now let's go! Like the other Nat’Our routes, this is a German-Luxembourg circular route. You start in the Luxembourg town of Bivels, cross the reservoir - and thus the border - on the blue steel bridge and climb along forest paths to the Falkenstein ruins, which are privately owned. To the right of the entrance portal you can take a break and you will immediately be surrounded by a fairytale-like Sleeping Beauty romance that invites you to linger, cuddle and dream.
The path now leads steeply downhill again to the dam, which follows it close to the bank to Keppeshausen. There you get – again over a bridge – to Stolzemburg on Luxembourg soil. You can find information about the place, its history and its castle in the information center in the former customs house, which is open daily. Opposite the bridge you climb uphill in the village, turn left into the hillside forest and quickly gain altitude along forest paths. About 100 meters below the upper basin, the rest of the route follows the Ourtal - with sensational views over the dam. You come back down into a side valley where turbine 10 of the pumped storage power plant peeks out of the mountain. You will then return to Bivels close to the shore.

Auf dieser faszinierenden Wandertour im NaturWanderPark delux wartet eine grandiose Landschaftskomposition auf euch! Es ist wohl eines der schönsten Postkartenmotive im NaturWanderPark delux, das sich hier vor euch ausbreitet: Die Ourtalschleife etwas nördlich von Vianden. Im Tal liegt der Ort Bivels mit der markanten blauen Brücke, darüber die bewaldete Kuppe mit einer hellgrünen Tonsur, umrundet vom tiefen Blaugrün der breit aufgestauten Our, eingefasst von steil aufstrebenden Eichenwäldern. Und mittendrin die auf einem mächtigen Schiefersporn thronende Ruine Falkenstein. Sie ist die erste, die sich aus dem Nebel schält, wenn die Morgensonne das Ourtal flutet. Auch wenn ihr dem Aufbruch entgegenfiebert, so sucht zur Einstimmung auf die Tour den Aussichtsplatz an der Grillhütte Waldhof-Falkenstein auf – hinreißend! Alternativ könnt ihr die Nat’Our Route von hieraus über einen kurzen Zuweg erreichen und runden, offiziell startet sie in Bivels.

Burgen, Stollen und Seen
Von dem, was ihr seht, ist viel Menschengemachtes. Bis in die 1950er Jahre zog die Our als kleiner Bach ihre Schleife um Bivels, das damals ganz anders aussah. Der St. Nicolas-Berg gegenüber hatte noch eine richtige Kuppe und es gab noch keinen Stausee. Die Landschaft bezeugt eines der imposantesten Bauprojekte Luxemburgs Mitte des letzten Jahrhunderts. Fast unsichtbar befindet sich hier eines der größten Pumpspeicherkraftwerke Europas. Tief im Fels rauschen die Fluten in Riesenröhren zwischen dem Stausee und dem Oberbecken auf dem Mont St. Nicolas. Viel ältere Bergbaugeschichten erzählt die Kupfergrube in Stolzemburg. Noch viel älter: die Historie der Burg Falkenstein, von der heute noch Wohnhaus und Burgruine erhalten sind.
Jetzt aber los! Wie auch die übrigen Nat’Our Routen ist diese ein deutsch-luxemburgischer Rundweg. Ihr startet im luxemburgischen Ort Bivels, überquert den Stausee – und damit die Grenze – auf der blauen Stahlbrücke und steigt über Waldwege zur Ruine Falkenstein an, die sich in Privatbesitz befindet. Rechts vom Eingangsportal lässt sich prima rasten und sogleich umfängt euch eine märchenhafte Dornröschen-Romantik, die zum Verweilen, Kuscheln und Träumen einlädt.
Der Weg führt nun wieder steil bergab zur Talsperre, der ihr ufernah bis Keppeshausen folgt. Dort gelangt ihr – wieder über eine Brücke – nach Stolzemburg auf luxemburgischen Boden. Infos zum Ort, seiner Historie und seiner Burg findet ihr in der täglich geöffneten Infostätte im ehemaligen Zollhäuschen. Gegenüber der Brücke steigt ihr im Ort bergan, biegt links in den Hangwald und gewinnt über Waldpfade rasch an Höhe. Etwa 100 Meter unterhalb des Oberbeckens folgt die weitere Route dem Ourtal – mit sensationellen Blicken über die Talsperre. Ihr kommt in einem Seitental wieder hinunter, wo die Turbine 10 des Pumpspeicherkraftwerks aus dem Berg lugt. Ufernah gelangt ihr dann wieder zurück nach Bivels.

Une composition paysagère grandiose vous attend lors de cette randonnée fascinante dans le NaturWanderPark delux ! C'est sans doute l'un des plus beaux motifs de carte postale du ParcDeRandonneeNature delux qui s'étend devant vous : La boucle de la vallée de l'Our, un peu au nord de Vianden. Dans la vallée se trouve le village de Bivels avec son pont bleu caractéristique, au-dessus le sommet boisé avec une tonsure vert clair, entouré du bleu-vert profond de l'Our largement retenue, bordé de forêts de chênes aux pentes raides. Et au milieu de tout cela, la ruine Falkenstein trône sur un puissant éperon de schiste. C'est la première à émerger de la brume lorsque le soleil matinal inonde la vallée de l'Our. Même si vous êtes impatient de partir, vous pouvez vous mettre dans l'ambiance en vous rendant à l'aire d'observation de la cabane de barbecue Waldhof-Falkenstein - c'est magnifique ! Vous pouvez également rejoindre et parcourir la Nat'Our Route à partir d'ici par un court chemin d'accès, officiellement au départ de Bivels.

Châteaux, galeries et lacs
De ce que vous voyez, beaucoup est fait par l'homme. Jusque dans les années 1950, l'Our, petit ruisseau, faisait sa boucle autour de Bivels, qui avait alors un tout autre aspect. La montagne Saint-Nicolas, en face, avait encore une vraie crête et il n'y avait pas encore de lac de barrage. Le paysage témoigne de l'un des projets de construction les plus imposants du Luxembourg au milieu du siècle dernier. Presque invisible, l'une des plus grandes centrales hydroélectriques à accumulation par pompage d'Europe se trouve ici. Au plus profond de la roche, les flots s'engouffrent dans des tubes géants entre le lac de retenue et le bassin supérieur sur le Mont St-Nicolas. La mine de cuivre de Stolzembourg raconte des histoires minières bien plus anciennes. Encore plus ancienne : l'histoire du château de Falkenstein, dont il reste aujourd'hui la maison d'habitation et les ruines.
Maintenant, allons-y ! Comme les autres Nat'Our Routen, il s'agit d'un circuit germano-luxembourgeois. Vous partez de la localité luxembourgeoise de Bivels, traversez le lac de barrage - et donc la frontière - sur le pont bleu en acier et montez par des chemins forestiers jusqu'à la ruine Falkenstein, qui est une propriété privée. À droite du portail d'entrée, vous pourrez vous reposer et vous serez immédiatement entouré d'un romantisme féerique de Belle au bois dormant, qui vous invitera à vous attarder, à vous blottir et à rêver.
Le chemin descend à nouveau en pente raide jusqu'au barrage, que vous suivez près de la rive jusqu'à Keppeshausen. Là, vous traverserez à nouveau un pont pour arriver à Stolzembourg, sur le sol luxembourgeois. Vous trouverez des informations sur le village, son histoire et son château dans le centre d'information ouvert tous les jours dans l'ancien poste de douane. En face du pont, vous montez dans le village, tournez à gauche dans la forêt en pente et gagnez rapidement de l'altitude par des sentiers forestiers. Environ 100 mètres en dessous du bassin supérieur, la suite de l'itinéraire suit la vallée de l'Our - avec des vues sensationnelles sur le barrage. Vous redescendez par une vallée latérale, où la turbine 10 de la centrale de pompage-turbinage émerge de la montagne. Vous reviendrez ensuite à Bivels en longeant la rive.
