Itinerary description
We climbed up a 2000 year old toll way. Naneghat was a busy trade route from Satvahana time circa 150BC. big stone pot in one of the pictures was for dropping the coins.
Naneghat is probably the simplest ghatwaat trek among the routes that climb up from konkan to the deccan plateau. About 4 hr drive from Pune takes you to the base near Vaishakhare. The trail is wide and easy to navigate. First half is flat to gradual climb. Second half is steep. There is a cave at the top that has an inscription in bramhi script, by a Satavahana queen.Tip : It is mid November and all streams are already dry. Carry sufficient water. There are no food stalls either. It is best to start early morning so that you are mostly in the shadow while climbing. Much of the route is in shade. There is a forest dept hut across the street. There is some fee. You can park there.
