Itinerary description
We started our walk in Villa Catedral, easily accessible by bus from Bariloche.
The first day, you climb up with a relatively steep part at the end to reach Refugio Frey.
This is an amazing place with a small lake at the base of a rock amphitheater. There is a Refugio where you can pay for a bed or you can camp there for free. They sell food and drinks at the refugio and there is toilets. This is a fantastic place used by a lot of climbers and make sure you get up for sunrise.
The second day start with a steep climb across Catedral Torre Principal and the down on loose gravels to the bottom of a valley. In the afternoon, you have to climb up again ad then back down another valley where is Refugio San Martin on the edge of another lake. Perfect for a refreshing swim. Same as Refugio Frey, there is toilets, beds and food or free campsite.
The third day, you go down following a river back to Colonia Suiza (the last part is along a road). In Colonia Suiza, there is plenty a camping and good restaurant or if you arrive early enough, you can take the bus back to Bariloche (bus stop is past the city near a pub - ask in the camping at the entry of the city, they will give you direction and they also have the bus timetable).
