Itinerary description
This is a stunning part of this 3 day traverse. This stage is quite a technical so you will be walking at a slower pace than during Stage 1. Therefore, it is wise to leave Refugio Frey early. Mountain experience is necessary, particularly under snow or ice conditions.
Lake Schmoll is along the route. The beautiful Rucaco valley is the last place where you will find water. The terrain is quite loose when you descend into Rucaco valley (slightly less loose descending into Lake Jakob) so trekking poles come very handy. There is a little bit of scrambling involved.
